I didn’t even know they was a World Video Game Hall of Fame. But there is a list of nominations and inductees for 2016. I’m glad it exists. Gaming has evolved so much and become a huge part of many people’s lives. Just as much, if not more, than sports which has numerous halls of fame.
Here is a description of the hall and how it works straight from them:
The World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong was established in 2015 to recognize individual electronic games of all types—arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile—that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general. Anyone may nominate a game to the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Final selections are made on the advice of journalists, scholars, and other individuals familiar with the history of video games and their role in society.
The hall only started last year so there are not a lot of games inducted yet. The 2016 list of nominees were:
“Elite,” ”Final Fantasy,” ”Grand Theft Auto III,” ”The Legend of Zelda,” ”Minecraft,” ”Nurburgring,” ”The OregonTrail,” ”Pokemon Red and Green,” ”Sid Meier’s Civilization,” ”The Sims,” ”Street Fighter II” and “Tomb Raider.”..
And The Winners Are:
Grand Theft Auto III
The Legend of Zelda
The Oregon Trail
The Sims
Sonic the Hedgehog
Space Invaders
I got no beef with the winners. Great set of games. But games like “Street Fighter 2” and “Tomb Raider” better get in next year. Anyone can nominate a game. If you want to submit something, go here…
